The Thread That Connects Our Kids

For 15 years, the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV) has transformed the lives of the kids who call the Village home. But our kids’ transformative journey doesn’t stop at graduation. The bonds we encourage our graduates and students to build across generations is “the unending thread that connects us,” says our Executive Director, Jean-Claude Nkulikiyimfura.

Don’t miss this video featuring Justin, ASYV Class of 2012; Kellen, ASYV Class of 2022; and Brunella, a second-year student. Each discusses the love for computers they discovered after arriving at ASYV and how their siblings inspired them to pursue that passion.

As Brunella says, “When I have a problem, I can go to Kellen. When I need help, I can go to her. When I am happy, I can go to her. My elder siblings have helped me to boost my confidence. And when I was introduced to Python [a computer programming language], it opened my mind.”

Thanks to our alumni and our entire Village community, each year, we can teach our kids more skills, like computer programming, that prepare them for Rwanda’s evolving economy. We can provide the support they need to build healthy relationships throughout life. We can continue transforming their future, so they can transform Rwanda’s.

“This country is in good hands because of this Village,” says Kellen.
