An Important Update: Strengthening ASYV for the Future

Dear ASYV Family,

We are writing to share an important update about the future of Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village.

Over the coming months, ASYV will begin an evolution toward greater Rwandan leadership and ownership — specifically, the Village will be transitioning from an international NGO to a locally registered Rwandan organization, with leadership and governance rooted in Rwanda. This marks an important milestone in the organization's journey and reflects a long-held aspiration that has been part of the Village's vision since its inception.

From the beginning, ASYV has anticipated a future in which Rwandans would lead the way in enriching their own communities. Nearly two decades later, Rwanda's leadership, institutions, and young people continue to demonstrate the strength and potential that make that future possible.

At the same time, the current funding environment has accelerated the timing of this change. Like many organizations across the nonprofit sector, ASYV has been affected by changing philanthropic priorities and increasing financial pressures. As a result, we are taking steps now to ensure that the organization remains sustainable and able to serve young people for years to come.

While aspects of the organization will evolve, the things that matter most will not change.

Our mission remains the same. Our commitment to young people remains the same. Most

importantly, every student currently enrolled at the Village will continue to receive the support they need through graduation. Their education, wellbeing, and future remain our highest priority.

ASYV is not closing. Rather, it is entering a new chapter — one that builds on nearly two decades of learning, impact, and community, while positioning the organization for a sustainable, Rwanda-led future.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has walked alongside us over the years. Your support, partnership, and belief in the potential of Rwanda's young people have helped make this work possible.

As this next chapter unfolds, we look forward to continuing that journey together.

With gratitude,

Jean Claude Nkulikiyimfura and Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village Leadership
