Visa Information/Customs

Visa Information

As of January 1, 2018, citizens of all countries can get a tourist visa upon arrival. Citizens of most countries are required to purchase a tourist visa for $50 USD. The airport accepts (and encourages payment with) credit cards, but it’s possible for them to have an issue with the machines, so it’s also a good idea to have cash handy, just in case. Bills should be printed 2009 or more recent to be accepted. Since March 2020, nationals of member states of either the African Union, the Commonwealth of Nations or La Francophonie are not required to pay a fee.

You may purchase your visa in advance of your arrival by applying online here (once on this page select ‘visa application’) at least 7 business days in advance for your visit. Instructions for applying can be found here.

Note: Passports with 6 months validity are required for travel to Rwanda. Be sure to check that your passport does not expire within 6 months of your trip.

Customs

Are you planning on transporting any supplies to the Village in your luggage? Please be sure to share a donation list with Director of Visitor Programs Jill Elias (jill@asyv.org) ahead of your travels along with any associated invoices/receipts. ASYV can then supply a letter for customs stating that the items are a donation for the Village, and will alert airport staff to clear the items. Be sure to bring the letter for customs in your carry-on so that it is easily accessible to show airport personnel, as needed.
